Crosby Granger Architects

The Old Black Lion

Based in Kendal, Crosby Granger Architects work nationally as both specialist conservation architects and advisors as well as modern designers of new buildings.

+apt collaborate with and assist the team at Crosby Granger Architects, currently as additional conservation architecture support for the RIBA Stage 5 delivery of the repairs and adaptation of the derelict Grade II listed Old Black Lion, Northampton, for the Churches Conservation Trust.

The completed building will provide amenities for the stunning C12th St Peters Church next door. A renewed pub will have links to the church to combine the venues and offer concerts, performances and events. The national office of the CCT will be relocated to the first floor, while The Central Council of Church Bellringers are looking to run a training centre for new bellringers within one of the former stable buildings within the courtyard.

Crosby Granger Architects have developed the scheme as heritage specialists, alongside the lead architects OMI. Midland Conservation Ltd are undertaking the first phase repairs, ready for a phase two fit out in 2024.

Funding has been provided by the National Lottery Heritage Trust, HM Treasury’s Towns Fund, West Northamptonshire Council, the Architectural Heritage Fund and West Northamptonshire Development Corporation.
